Hi, my name is Diallo Wilson and I am a storyteller.
When people ask me, what are the important elements of making great photos, whether it’s camera settings, sharpness, editing, or the camera. I tell them it comes down to the essentials such as voice, emotion, character and most importantly the story. Stories have the ability to move people. I choose to tell my stories as well as the story of someone’s vision, a place, a couple and your home.
Stories are the best way to communicate something to someone, with my photography I give context to my experience. It means not capturing images of “bangers” only, but the details that lead up to the “banger” are just as important. For me it always starts with the experience, what are going to do, see, and why. It’s not about shooting in the best light and always the best frames. Its about the story of my experience, it’s about who I was with, what we did and the feeling that created. The best things I have created are when things unfolded naturally and the energy of everyone involved clicked. Capturing the passion that a person has for what they’re doing create the best images.
My first interest in photography came about when I was five years old and I saw my Great-Grandmother taking photos of me and my brother at the Illinois State fair. I inquisitively asked her about her camera as she knelt down and gave me a quick lesson on composition. Furthermore, she told me to take pictures of moments that feel right. Over the years I have used that philosophy with all of my photos. `I seek to photograph what I know, because the truth comes out in images when you document the familiar.
